For many people, including myself, a little heads up: Surround sound is not supported for any RUclips video when viewed on PC. It's only for the RUclips App currently on TV's and some Smart devices.
Some people are able to with the Chrome browser, ...I can't but a friend of mine can. The only way I can initiate 5.1 from the Chrome browser on my PC is to use the button "Play On TV" to ChromeCast the video to my TV's native RUclips app. That being said, the easiest way to stream 5.1 is just use the YT app on an nvidia shield, xbox, playstation, AppleTV, Roku, Firestick, etc
Works great on my chromecast ultra with 5.1 soundbar that has 2 rear satellites + sub. The soundbar lit up the led to indicate dolby digital and all the channels output correctly 🙂 I wish there were more demos out here with true 5.1 channels instead of faked downmixed stereo.
My top notch 5.1 system works PERFECT with all the RUclips 5.1 content. The 5.1 music channel is particularly excellent as there is album after album in true 5.1 music. My system works as advertised. You got to listen to Santana or Steely Dan album, two against nature or everything must go, for perfect 5.1 music.
2024, RUclips supports 5.1 for smart tvs or other devices that have a RUclips app, and has 5.1. Browser on a PC will only be a mixed down stereo version. Check your smart TV audio output settings that it is either set to auto, or dolby 5.1. If there is a optical out option, and that is what you are using, select optical out, if there is another option like PCM or auto, pick auto. If there is a audio out DTV pick auto, or pick 5.1, if there is dolby atmos or dolby digital plus option still pick 5.1 or auto. On your home theatre or 5.1 system, select auto detect. If it has a display that shows what it has detected, then play this video for a test. PCM stereo let's through the codec, and dolby pro logic I & II can decifer it, but the LFe will be missing. So go back to your smart TV and recheck that it's not PCM. Smart tvs have a audio output option even the cheap tvs have it, either auto select or 5.1. My setup on the smart TV is set to auto out through the optical, and under DTV. This video test works 100% my subs shock the house, as I have a 7.2
@@knightgamer5300I believe the problem is the browser not supporting 5.1. That is the difference, apps like RUclips app supports 5.1, and sends it out through optical 5.1, when you choose those settings, only a decoder can detect and transmit the audio. On my PC I've played games in 5.1 out the 5.1 speaker outputs, and also via optical through a home theatre decoder. If RUclips had an Windows app, it would work.
It seems Yotube not allow play 5.1 via browser.I inserted URL in Pot player but it shows stereo any way. I have Pioneer receiver connected opticaly to PC.
My LG Dolby digital TV is connected by optical cable to my yamaha amplifier. When the video plays the sub on my system doesn't, and the rear speakers don't distinguish between left and right. What can it be?
Optical cable may have limitations. RUclips does support a fairly basic dolby digital track, but it could be the cable. You should also check the settings of your amplifier, especially the subwoofer. The LFE+Main option also helps.
I have an LG TV, check audio settings within the TV settings, audio out can be either out through optical, or HDMI Arc, arc is that it can receive an hdmi and send out through the same hdmi, pick optical/digital sound out set to auto. DTV Audio settings is auto, Then whatever your 5.1 device is if it can be set to auto detect. Play the 5.1 video test, check where it shows what it is detecting. I have a pioneer home theatre, using auto detect, as soon as the 5.1 video starts playing it switches to 5.1, you hear a click sound, and visually displays the 7.1 speaker icons. Hope this helps.
"Once you select a video to play, a player control bar will show. Go to 5.1 surround sound to turn it on or off. Note: The setting will only appear for videos and devices that support 5.1 surround sound. 5.1 in RUclips is supported on all 2021 and later TVs, Chromecast, Apple TV, Roku and most Fire TV devices."
My Denon Avr show 5.1 Dolby Digital signal on this and every real 5.1 youtube videos. Pro logic 2 is the stereo to 5.1 virtual upmix, but it is a stereo sound upmix to surround. RUclips player option below the resolution give a 5.1 surround option it your devices support is.
Im sure there are those that would disagree but thst's prolly better left for another day. I for one have only listened through headphones and I've heard some mind blowing stuff. Can't wait to get the rest of my speakers together so I can test your theory out😀@@51TestClips
Mine was until I fixed the issue in my smart TV settings. Check to see if audio output is set to dolby 5.1. If not then it maybe set to PCM, or dolby digital plus. If set to PCM, then only pro logic I & II will work, since it will take the pcm 2 track with the codec and split the 5 tracks out, minus the sub, since pro logic does not have a dedicated sub track.
If you are playing any RUclips video on PC, it will not work. RUclips downgrades all audio to stereo when played through a browser. 5.1 is only enabled for Smart TV's and the like.

The best Surround
The dolby digital 5.1 feature on RUclips seems to have disapeared. Only for yt premium ? Someone has infos?
Surround sound works the same for me. I have no information that it only applies to premium members, it is independent of that.
If your playing it on PC, it won't work. It's only for TV apps or Smart devices.
